Southwark Council has granted planning permission for leaseholders Fullers to convert the Half Moon pub in Herne Hill, replacing its music area with a larger kitchen, reports Southwark News.
The pub hosted live music for more than 40 years, welcoming the likes of The Police, Van Morrison and U2, but has been closed since severe flooding in 2013. Campaigners had held various initiatives including a pop-up concert in a bid to secure its future.
“There has been a lot of focus on live music – and we do understand that there are some in the local community who feel that the pub should bring back live music in dedicated surroundings,” said a spokesperson for Fullers. “However, we do not believe that the pub is economically viable with a strong focus on live music and we are not experts in late night entertainment.”
